This month chart of signings shows that we had greater
success in Canada, and the trend is in the wrong direction, especially
in major cities. Some observations:
-
Radio interviews by telephone, especially on morning talk shows, is the
easiest media to obtain.
-
TV is much more difficult, except for local cable companies.
-
Most media events happen on Monday to Thursday.
-
Most book signings happen Thursday through Sunday
-
The impact of media on sales is not clear
-
The objective is to get a pile of books in as many book stores as possible,
so people see them in each store they visit; frequency is as important
as location.
-
Approximately 3600 books were placed in stores as a result of signings
over 22 weeks.
-
Chapters, the Canadian arm of Borders, picked up Teach Your Children
Well as its national front of store, non-fiction promotion in all 400
stores for January 1999, because of our Book signings in Ontario and Montreal.
-
This selection resulted in the shipment of 5 to 8 copies to the remaining
Canadian stores - an order of 1800 books.
-
TYCW is in its 3rd printing since October (5000 per printing.)
-
These data indicate that we range between 30 and 55 events per months as
signings
-
There is much greater range of media events (15 to 40 per month.)
